HCG diet info is everywhere. It is one of the latest ‘silver bullets’ of the dieting world that all chronic fad dieters are raving about. HCG (or Human chorionic gonadotropin) is a pregnancy hormone often prescribed to treat infertility in both men and women.
The claim is that if taken daily in the form of an injection or drops under the tongue, this synthetically produced hormone can rapidly ‘melt’ fat from any problem area - oh you also have to go on a starvation diet of 500 calories a day too - for eight weeks, but the ‘experts’ assure you it is the hormone doing all the work.
While approved for use as a fertility drug the FDA has recently stated that all HCG products, including injections prescribed by a doctor, must now carry a visible warning stating there's no proof they accelerate weight loss, redistribute fat, or diminish hunger.
This finding was the result of data collected from 14
clinical trials, of which only two concluded HCG was any more effective than a
placebo at helping people lose weight. But dieters are adamant this daily
injection helps them maintain the 500 calorie a day meal plan without any
hunger pangs, essentially tricking the body into starving itself.
Perhaps what has the medical community more concerned is the extensive list of potential side effects that are likely to be exacerbated by such severe calorie restriction. The list includes; headaches, blood clots, leg cramps, temporary hair thinning, constipation, and breast tenderness (amongst other pregnancy symptoms).
Moreover, extremely low-calorie diets can cause severe bone and muscle loss, electrolyte imbalances, gallstones, and even death, let alone the irritation and tiredness that come from chronic hunger.
There has been at least one recent report lodged
with the FDA of an HCG dieter developing
a potentially fatal pulmonary embolism.
A HCG diet meal plan is rather depressingly simple, with a limit of 500 calories per day and a very short list of meats, fruits, vegetables and fruits allowed - your choices are pretty limited. When approaching a VLCD or very low calorie diet, try to keep in mind that herbs and spices can add a great deal of flavour without the extra calories.
HCG diet info appears to be broken up into four phases with specific guidelines for each one. The initial phase for example instructs increased daily water intake, walking for at least one hour a day, a body cleanse using recommended HCG diet supplements and eating apples and breadfruit every day.
