Breast Cancer Diet - Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian women and while research is ongoing there are no strong indications that any specific foods or supplements will lower the risk of getting this type of cancer or reduce the risk of recurrence. This however does not mean there are not dietary and lifestyle precautions available.

Some risk factors such as genetics and family history cannot be altered, however keeping a diet the healthiest it can be will boost the immune system, generate whole body wellness and aid the body to remove any toxins and potentially harmful substances, all of which can help keep the risk of developing this cancer as low as possible.

Current research indicates that avoiding excessive dietary fat during the teenage years; particularly animal fats may indeed help lower the long term risk of breast cancer. There is some focus on the effects of hormonal changes upon breast tissue, such as those occurring during puberty, pregnancy and menopause.

In such a fast paced world it can be difficult to balance
our home, work, social and personal lives


But overall maintaining a general state of wellness seems to be the best prevention path; engaging in regular exercise of at least 30 minutes every day, combining cardio and strengthening exercises and eating a balanced diet, low in fat and high in variation with a focus on whole rather than processed foods. There is some suggestion that overweight women are at an increased risk of this cancer although this has not been scientifically supported.

A healthy lifestyle however is often more than simply a great diet and a regular exercise routine.  It includes managing stress and anxiety, ensuring you receive enough quality sleep and recognising your body’s specific needs. When considering hormonal balance it is essential to appreciate the effects stress, fatigue and illness can have upon the body.

  • being overweight
  • smoking
  • excessive alcohol
  • sugar
  • salt
  • fat intake
  • excessive sun exposure and
  • exposure to chemical substances...


... all greatly increase the risk of cancer and other chronic disease development and should be avoided or moderated. Taking control of our health can be a rewarding experience and yearly health checks with a regular doctor should be part of every woman’s positive health management routine.
